Born in Peru, Mira Velasquez immigrated to the United States at a young age, an experience that profoundly shapes her artistic practice. She’s a student at George Mason University majoring in Art and Visual Technology with a concentration in Studio Art. Mira seeks to call attention to perspectives and communities that are often overlooked or misrepresented in the media, offering viewers an opportunity to engage with these stories on a deeper level.
Mira discovered her passion for photography in high school, where a film photography class sparked her interest in the medium. She was drawn to photography’s ability to document the world, finding joy in capturing the everyday moments and interactions around her. Photography became a way for Mira to connect with people in her community at a young age, which led her to understand the power of art to bring people together. Inspired by her surroundings and personal journey, Mira uses photography to share these experiences with a broader audience, hoping to inspire a more inclusive and empathetic worldview.
